Yamarin's range of large boats is expanding with the addition of an 8-metre day cruiser designed for the global market. The new model innovatively combines the best features of a day cruiser and a walkaround.
“Our boats have always been very popular in Norway, Sweden and Finland, but the starting point when designing the new day cruiser was that it should also serve boaters in the Mediterranean, Florida and Australia just as well,” says Artturi Niittynen, Sales and Marketing Director at Yamarin.
The new Yamarin 80 DC differs from typical Nordic day cruisers and also from Yamarin's other models especially in the design of its bow deck, which provides access to the boat from the side. Access from the sheltered open seating area to the bow is located on the port side, whereas in most modern day cruisers access is typically in the middle of the boat.
A recessed and sheltered passageway on the port side leads to the bow and is protected by a railing. In other respects, the bow deck is completely flat, so it is easy to move about in the bow when docking. It also makes an excellent place for a sunbed.
"Access along the side to the bow also enabled a larger bow cabin door opening compared to traditional solutions. This makes it easier to move between the bow cabin and the open space," explains Yamarin Marketing Manager Johan Finnberg.
The innovative solutions allow the new Yamarin 80 DC to be adapted without compromise to very different boating cultures. In the Nordic countries, landing on the shallow shores is often done bow first, so safe access to the bow is important. Large day cruisers are also used for trips lasting a couple of days, so the characteristics of a travel boat with comfortable overnight accommodation are important.
In Mediterranean conditions, on the other hand, boats are usually docked stern first, so the bow deck is primarily one of the living areas. At the same time, it must be possible to move about there easily when attaching the anchor or mooring lines. The bow cabin serves as a place to change clothes, as well as a comfortable place to rest while cruising.
Yamarin and partners challenge Nordic traditions
The design work of the new model began two years ago. Yamarin’s own design team was supported by R2 Marine, which focused especially on hull design and functionality, Northern Works, an expert in vehicle planning and design headed by designer Miika Heikkinen, and Italian boat designer Marco Casalli.
“Marco Casalli brought new ideas to the table and challenged the traditional Nordic day cruiser design philosophy. In particular, he combined the positive aspects of walkaround and day cruiser solutions, making it possible to utilise the bow deck even more flexibly without compromising the bow cabin spaces and the protection of the windshield,” says Niittynen.
The new Yamarin 80 DC features a spacious bow cabin for sleeping, which is very well lit thanks to the large hull windows. There is also an opening hatch on the deck. On the port side, under the recessed passageway, there is a comfortable divan with a wonderful view out of the adjacent hull window. In addition, there is a separate, spacious WC in the bow. From the bow cabin there is also access to another spacious sleeping cabin located under the open space, where two adults can sleep comfortably.
Open space is the heart of the boat
The real heart of the boat, however, is its spacious open space where up to eight people can socialise in comfort. The pantry on the port side is equipped with a stove, refrigerator and sink, as well as good storage facilities. During cooking, the lid of the pantry opens into a handy worktop.
"The size of the socialising area in the boat's open space increases significantly when the backrest of the skipper’s double bench is flipped forward. The back of the sofa in the stern also flips down, turning it into a sunbed," says Marketing Manager Johan Finnberg.
The Yamarin Q smart display is an integral part of the boat, as is the Yamaha F300 V6 outboard. Standard equipment includes one 16" Q-display with Navionics electronic navigation charts, and a double display is optional.
“The boat has been designed around these components. This also enables a clearly laid-out cockpit, which has been designed with designated places for screens, Yamaha gauges and the joystick that controls the engine, as well as a charging port for phones," says Finnberg.
In addition to easy access from the bow, the boat also provides unobstructed and flat passage from the stern. The swimming platforms are covered in Softdeck non-slip floor surfaces that are very durable and comfortable even for bare feet, and they extend far along the sides of the boat. In front of the outboard, there is a spacious storage space into which the boat's canopy can be easily folded.
Standard equipment includes an electrical WC, refrigerator, 16" Yamarin Q smart display, Navionics charts and Softdeck coatings in the open space. Optional equipment includes a second 16" display, heating or air conditioning, a bimini top or canopy, a table in the open space, a sunbed and a bimini top for the bow deck.
Over 50 years of Yamarin boats
Yamarin boats have been manufactured since 1972 and have always been powered by Yamaha outboards. The new model completes the range and is positioned between two modern day cruisers, the Yamarin 67 DC (6.76 m / 250 hp) and the flagship Yamarin 88 DC (8.8 m / 425 hp). The popular Yamarin 79 DC (8.02 m / 300 hp) will also remain in the range alongside the new product.
The Yamarin range includes a total of six day cruisers, three bow riders and two side console models. The smallest model in the range is the multipurpose Yamarin 46 SC side console model with a length of just over 4.6 metres, and the largest model is the Yamarin 88 DC, which is almost nine metres and equipped with two sleeping cabins.
The Yamarin 80 DC will be unveiled at the Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show ”Uiva Flytande”, which runs from 17 to 21 August in Lauttasaari. After that, the new model can be seen in Oslo at the ”Båter i Sjøen” boat show, which opens on 31 August, in September at the Southampton Boat Show in England, and in October at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida.
