Statutory equipment

The Water Traffic Act stipulates that every motor boat must have the following equipment in working order:

1) Life jackets for everyone on board
2) A pump or a baler
3) Oars or a paddle or and anchor with rope
4) A fire extinguisher of at least 2 kg, if the outboard engine is more than 25 kW (34 hp).

The boat insurance may compensate for damage occurring while out on the water or during transportation or docking. Remember to separately ensure liability insurance for lifting the boat.

Voluntary safety equipment includes

- compass
- nautical chart
- radar reflector
- emergency flares
- floodlight
- binoculars
- rescue hoop
- phone.

NOTE! Even though the law may not require wearing life jackets, remember that they only work when you wear them! This is why it is a good idea to help passengers, particularly children, to become used to wearing a life jacket.

Familiarise yourself with the owner’s manuals of your boat and outboard engine and consult your boat dealer for more information. We wish you happy boating!
