Minor surface repairs
Minor damage to the surface layer, or gelcoat, on the boat's hull or deck you can repair yourself. However, making a neat and imperceptible finish requires skill:
- Use tape to protect the area to be repaired. - Sand the edges of the dent slanting and clean with acetone. - If the damage is over 2 mm in depth, fill it up with putty before painting. - Mix 1.5 - 2 of hardening agent into the gelcoat - Spread the gelcoat on the damaged area, leaving the surface a fraction higher than the surrounding surface. - Put some tape gently on the repaired part. - Once the Gelcoat has hardened up, remove the tape and, if necessary, sand down with sandpaper, grit size between 600 and 1,200. - Polish the repaired area with rubbing compound and wax.
Later installations
Poorly made later installations and modifications may damage the boat's structure or compromise safety. Contact your dealer before you make or have somebody else make new grounding work, hatches, holes etc.
NOTE! The floating material in the boat must not be removed under any circumstances.
